Top Casinos for Your Windows Mobile Device

Windows Phone devices have been winning over their fair share of users and it seems that their popularity will continue to rise. Having considered this fact, more and more casinos are releasing Windows Phone-compatible gaming platforms. Being quite the gambler, I had to see for myself which casinos really live up to their promises and support the theory of more iGaming products coming for Windows OS devices.

So, I started with a few of the most popular casinos and I soon discovered that while games on older devices were glitchy or wouldn’t open, newer phones and tables with Windows 8.1 OS performed marvelously. Let’s have a look at some great casinos for Windows Phone and see how they did.

In my endeavour to explore the world of Windows Phone casinos, I found that while some operators excel at offering their users a wide array of fast-loading games with great graphics and mind-blowing sound effects, others have failed miserably. I will not bore you with the latter, but I will give you some pointers as to why and how we chose these particular casinos for Windows Phone users and what are their qualities and flaws.

As you can see from the table above, there is one casino that stood out in terms of number of games offered which, much to my surprise, also worked on older and not so powerful devices. Gala Casino’s platform did pretty well on Nokia Lumia 520, a popular budget smartphone launched in 2013. Having tried most of the games on a rather old Windows Phone, I noticed that most of the problems that users have when playing casino games are related to the resolution and low-performance of these devices, which is no longer an issue on Windows OS Tablets, like Acer Iconia Tab. In the following paragraphs, I will approach some of the issues that surface while playing at casinos for Windows Phones and share with you which software providers and operators perform best for these devices.

How We Chose the Windows Phone Apps

You all know that mobile gambling is a huge part of the iGaming industry and it is believed that pretty soon the biggest majority of players will do most of their gambling on mobile devices. So, Windows Phone devices cannot be ignored, no matter how they perform generally. Despite the huge competition coming from iOS and Android, Microsoft still have a lot to offer their users, so more and more casinos need to turn their attention towards making their platform compatible with Windows Phones, as well.

I have to admit to being slightly disappointed to see that renowned casinos like 888 performed pretty poorly, but the problem was actually in the device, not the gaming platform or operator. Because of poor resolution, unsupported browser, the lack of proximity sensor and so on, older devices are unable to play or even open most of the casino games offered by operators. However, there are a few exceptions and some software providers do a better job at keeping Windows Phone users happy than others.

Available Games and Software

As I mentioned a bit earlier, Windows OS devices are not the most popular ones and creating games for users with such phones or tablets has proved to be tricky so far. The biggest reason for that is the lack of support for Flash and Java on all Windows mobile devices. So, if you need Flash Player to play games in the browser and Java to play downloaded and installed games, how do you get around these problems and how did I do the research for this page in the first place?

Well, it’s actually thanks to HTML5 that users can play games in the browsers of their Windows Phones. So, having learned that, I decided to give most casinos another try and started trying more, newer devices and thus discovered the ups and downs of having a Windows OS mobile device. For example, although very few 888 Casino games worked on Nokia Lumia 520, there were some that worked perfectly, with a rather short loading time, although played in browser.

What I noticed, however, is that some games simply did better thanks to the software provider they belonged to. NetEntertainment did pretty well, while Playtech games were virtually impossible to play on phones. NetEnt Touch games like Jack and the Beanstalk, Aliens, Blackjack and Roulette Touch work perfectly, precisely because they are designed specifically for mobile devices. I played several NetEnt Touch slots at 888 Casino which loaded fast and worked without problems on both Windows Phones and tablets. Duelz, on the other hand, I would recommend for playing Blackjack and Roulette. Of course, it is better to have it all in one place, so I would choose Grosvenor Casino.

Windows-Friendly Web Apps

The best way to make the most of your Windows Phone is to find an operator that offers all the games that you like to play on the go: slots, roulette, blackjack and even live casino games. As I have mentioned in the previous paragraph, a great choice for all of the above is Gala Casino, which performs perfectly both on phones and tablets with Windows OS.

The thing about these devices is that tablets, like the Acer Iconia Tab which I mentioned earlier, have something like the mini-version of the desktop Windows software. Actually, Windows 10 will be the first full-scale software that will work both on mobile devices and computers. So, while there are no casino apps that can be downloaded and installed on Windows Phones yet, users with tablets with Windows OS can do so right from the casino website.

Bonus Opportunities

Another factor that I took into consideration when choosing casinos for Windows Phones are the bonus opportunities that they extend to their mobile users. You might think that they should be the same offers as the ones on the desktop platform, but that may not always be the case. Some operators have great welcome offers, but they may be collected solely over the desktop. That means that you would have to access the site, register, deposit and collect the bonus on your computer and only then you’ll be able to start playing on your mobile device. But I am pretty sure that will simply not do for most mobile users. So, be sure that the operator you choose has the same great bonus offers for all its players, desktop and mobile alike.

How We Tested the Apps

If you are wondering if this review and recommendations are legit or biased, let me walk you through the selection process and tell you a little more about the devices and operators that I tested. First and foremost, I had to check the minimum requirements of the casino apps, to see which devices can be used for the tests and which will only lose my time. Starting from the presence of a web browser – no, unfortunately Google Chrome is not an option for Windows Phone devices, and all the way to the minimum resolution and processor.

So, we started trying out casinos on Nokia Lumia 520, which was the best-selling Windows device in September 2013 and the most common Nokia Lumia device. But as soon as we noticed that most apps were glitchy and flawed on this device, we moved on to more high-performance phones and tablets with Windows OS. That is when we discovered with great excitement that tablets had the same version of OS like the one on your computer and laptops – with desktop, downloadable apps and all. That gave me the chance to really explore the world of Windows Phone casino operators and I must admit it was quite the ride.

Compatibility and What the Future Holds for Windows Phone

While it may seem that Windows Phones are living in the shadow of Android and iOS devices, Microsoft have no intention of giving up on their smartphones and nor will the users. Most of the Windows Phones are so popular mostly thanks to their low prices and their more than satisfactory characteristics. This was the reason for which Nokia Lumia 520 had 12 million activations just 10 months after it was launched. And judging by their newer, high-performance phones and tablets, we have not seen the last of Windows OS devices.

The Development and Future of Windows Phones

As you have already noticed from our infographic, Windows 10 is expected to be launched in late July 2015 and it will be the very first full-blown software to run on mobile devices. One of the best things about Windows OS mobile devices is that they offer developers a chance to try their new software long before the launch and that is not all. Young and experienced developers alike get to submit their own programs and make suggestions and enquiries and it is a great way to foresee potential problems and add more features that would give the users an even better experience. So, having tried a wide range of phones and tablets, I have put together a list of devices with similar or higher characteristics that have proved to work great with bingo, betting and casino apps.

Although most Windows Phone devices are Nokia, other manufacturers also launched devices that run on Windows mobile platform and users seem to be more than happy with how they perform. Having said that, it comes as no surprise that the Windows Phone App Store is available in over 190 countries and their market share has recently grown at 10% and continues to rise.

So, it appears we are at the end of our journey together, but I would first like to give you an overview of what I have learned about Windows Phone apps and which casinos are the best for users with such devices. After having considered all the aspects and characteristics of what we would call a good casino operator, such as: payment methods available for mobile users, number and quality of games offered, bonus opportunities and more, we found that Gala Casino is the best choice for Windows Phone users.

Our test of Gala Casino included trying out some of the most popular casino games, like video slots and video poker games, European Roulette and Blackjack, but also some arcade and scratch games. As far as the table games are concerned, Gala did great and the app runs smoothly, both on Nokia Lumia 520 and also on tablets. The video slots we tried were also a success and we could use all settings like Quick Spin, Auto-play, Left-handed and more. So, overall it is safe to say that Gala Casino will be your best bet for Windows Phone Casino Apps.
